16 Dec “Is It Bad Enough Yet?”: NYT Op-Ed by Mark Bittman

Bittman’s recently published article in the New York Times reminds us that activism and collective engagement with issues of social justice are part of the imperative for a national movement.  He draws attention to both the histo-political relevance and necessity of the intersectionality of social movements. Pointing to the contemporary labor movements and the #blacklivesmatter movement as the same struggle against capital, with the same people left disenfranchised and targeted by our capitalist system, Bittman reiterates what many of us believe: “a just and righteous system will have a positive impact on everything we care about, just as an unjust, exploitative system makes everything worse.”  We are part of a national phenomenon that is only growing, and his article is a reminder that our activism and struggle for justice matters.
